Well, hmmm. You are lumping everyone that believes in God and follows a certain religion in the same category as all the religious fanatics out there. Kind of the same as what you think religious people do to you.

I don't care that you don't believe in God, it doesn't bother me a bit, and I have no reason to judge you. But, I do believe in God and I would hope that you'd be able to show me the same kind of respect as I would show you. Right?

Religion is such a touchy topic, there are many that don't believe and many that do and there will never be a coming together for everyone. We just need to practice tolerance and respect for each others beliefs.

Have a great night, what's left of it!
I'm off to bed...:)

This may get long so I hope you don't mind.

First of all, I agree with Laurie with regard to the fact that you seem to have lumped all religious people into the same category. The problem does not lie within religion, but in those who follow their religion zealously, who are fundamental extremists, who are hypocrites hiding behind the words in a text (which they conveniently bend or take out of context to suit their own needs). These are the dangerous ones.

There are some religions where mindfulness (living in the here and now) is actually espoused. There is a respect for the world and all life within it. Buddhism comes to mind, although I personally see this as more of a philosophy than a religion.

Anyway, I do see your point. There are those who use their religion to incite hatred and intolerance. I find this to be hypocritical to the nth degree. This is one of the reasons I no longer attend service. How can you believe in a kind, loving, and forgiving God and still be so rigid, narrow-minded, and hateful? So...there it is in a nutshell...

I'm not saying all religious people do these things. I'm saying that religion has caused people to do hateful, and inhuman things in the name of a god, and in reality those books that they use back up the things that they do teach hatred, censorship, and also tells people it's ok to murder as long as it's "for god" or "what god wants"... so in other words they tell people it's ok if YOU think god would approve of it, and of course he would because he kills people all the time in religious books, and it tells people it's ok if YOU kill somebody because they disagree with your religion... ie: Christianity, Islam, Judaism.

Laurie: I treat every human being with a certain level of respect and they can either gain more respect or lose that respect, it's completely up to them. It's not like I say "oh you believe in a god? fuck off!" lol.

Texican, the problem is the religion, not the people following it zealously those who don't follow it zealously are twisting the books to make it fit them saying "oh god doesn't REALLY mean that, when the book really does mean that.

OK. Well spoken. I agree with you but not 100%. Yes religion can be misinterpreted by many. Massive religious organizations sometimes act upon greed and power rather than humanity. There will always be someone or something that an unbalanced person will use as an excuse to wreak havoc so I can't place the entire blame on an organization. Religion is a knife, what one does with it is based solely on an individual.

I have friends from all realms of religion and my only request to them is that they respect my distance from any of their beliefs.
